Water, moisture and humidity

Water is one of the worst enemies of wood. In the form of ice, vapour or liquid, water can shrink and expand, which can lead to the expanding or shrinking of wood. This causes changes of the timber and degradation of the finish layer.

Water causes decay and rot, this allows for the rapid failure of the surface sealer, stains and other finishes. Water speeds up the weathering of outdoor wood which is unprotected.

Mold, mildew, algae and moss

Moist is a natural source of food for mould, mildew and algae on unprotected wood. This usually causes black, green or grey coloured wood surfaces. Most mould and mildew also cause serious respiratory problems in humans.

Dirt and contamination

Contamination of wood can come in many forms. Dirt, pollen, animal waste, but also air pollution will all contaminate wood and serve as a food source for moss, algae, mildew and fungi. These micro-organisms penetrate deep into the wood and build up on the surface.

Termites and woodworm are insects that feed on dead plant material and cellulose. Basically they are an important part of the ecosystem by recycling plants and wood. But this is not what we want to happen to the wood we still use.

Woodseal Pro prevents termites and woodworm from penetrating wood by sealing the pores of the wood fibre. This way the cellulose in the wood is completely protected, serving no longer as a food source for termites and woodworm.

Temperature, frost damage

Woodseal Pro preservative prevents freeze and thaw damage, particularly where the water has penetrated or intrude in the inner cellular layers, which causes fragmentation and expansion of small cracks in the wood. This allows water to penetrate more and the decay will increase rapidly.
